Jennifer Lopez Cancels Tour Amid Poor Sales, Faces $90 Million Loss with MGM

Live Nation and Jennifer Lopez announced today the cancellation of the upcoming summer This Is Me… Now tour. In a statement to her fans on OntheJLo, Lopez expressed her deep regret, stating that she needed to spend more time with her children, family, and close friends.

Behind this decision lies a backdrop of troubling performance issues. Sources suggest that poor box office sales and underwhelming chart performance of her latest album have played a significant role in the tour’s downfall. Additionally, Lopez has been under fire on social media, with critics calling out her singing abilities and accusing her of mistreating those who work for her.

Back in March, Lopez significantly cut down her This Is Me… Now tour, canceling stops in cities including Cleveland, Nashville, Raleigh, Atlanta, Tampa, New Orleans, and Houston. Rolling Stone reported these cancellations for late August dates without providing a specific reason. Ticketmaster simply informed fans, “Unfortunately, the Event Organizer has had to cancel your event. No action is required to obtain a refund.” Entertainment Weekly cited a “logistical issue through the promoter” as the cause, though the specifics remain unclear.

In addition to these unfortunate occurrences, Jennifer Lopez may be on the brink of losing a staggering $90 million as she faces the potential cancellation of her Las Vegas residency. According to a report by Page Six, MGM has been closely monitoring Lopez’s ticket sales performance nationwide, raising concerns about the viability of her 90-show residency at the MGM Grand.

An insider shared, “MGM is watching her not doing well on the road. They are very nervous. It’s pretty rare you have a poor tour and then go to Vegas.” This scrutiny has led to discussions about possibly reducing the number of shows and consequently, the payout for Lopez.

This Is Me… Now The Tour, produced by Live Nation, was set to be a triumphant comeback after a five-year hiatus, following her successful 2019 tour which grossed over $50 million with sold-out venues nationwide. The 37-city tour was scheduled to kick off on June 26 in Orlando, FL, at the Kia Center, covering major North American cities before concluding on August 31 in Houston, TX, at the Toyota Center.

Are the poor reviews and performance of Lopez’s new album This Is Me… Now and documentaries This Is Me… Now: A Love Story and The Greatest Love Story Never Told the reasons behind the complete cancellation of her summer tour? Are online critics responsible for the poor ticket sales? What will become of her potential collaboration with MGM in Las Vegas? These questions loom large as Lopez navigates this challenging period in her career.
